As the 1% and their state apparatus try to crush the Occupy movement across the US, the 99%’s anger over corporate greed continues to deepen and expand into a broad solidarity movement to defend the Occupy movement and the people’s right to resist a rotten economic system.

Occupy Wall Street is part of a global movement because Wall Street’s power, as well as it’s reactionary state violence, is global. On six continents, people are in combat with the forces of monopoly capital that are destroying our lives. The intensifying repression of monopoly capitalist forces continues to be met by the global 99%’s movements for national and social liberation around the world. At the same time, the global 99% continues to amass power and strategy to take down the global 1% through international solidarity, cooperation, and the building of the broad anti-imperialist united front.

Last July, in Manila, nearly 500 people from 40 countries attended the Fourth International Assembly of the International League of Peoples Struggle (ILPS). In its decade of existence, the ILPS has grown into the largest international anti-imperialist united front, linking the struggles of workers, farmers, youth, women, migrants, queers, indigenous peoples, eco-activists, and others against the various impacts of monopoly capital all over the world under an umbrella of unity, support, respect and coordination.

Join us as several ILPS delegates from New York City reportback on what they experienced in Manila and what it means in the context of Occupy Wall Street.

ILPS member organizations in the Tri-State area include the International Action Center, Al-Awda NY, NY May 1st Coalition for Worker and Immigrant Rights, and BAYAN USA.

State Repression

This coming Wednesday, November 16, is the 7th Anniversary of the Hacienda Luisita Massacre. Out of the 4,000 farmworkers who staged a strike against exploitative working conditions, 14 were killed, hundreds were injured by the Philippine military. No one was made accountable for these injustices.

Join us in discussing the issue of State Repression, our rights as citizens in the face of oppressive police and armed forces, and how we can achieve justice for victims of state-sponsored brutality

SAVE THE DATE: August 19- Another Upsurge is on Its Way!

“Upsurge: Rising Consciousness”

WHAT: The inspiration behind producing this event is to create a space for local artists, activists, and members of the community to come together, hangout and share experiences with each other. This month’s Upsurge will be focusing on the issue of public education. We have seen massive cuts to the educational budget, while government spending on wars and corporate bailouts remain on the rise. Anakbayan aims to educate our fellow youth regarding this attack on social services and inspire them to take on the fight for their right to free, quality, and liberating education.

Any art piece in line with the theme of enlightenment, empowerment and self-remolding is welcome.

Let’s Deliver Our One- Two Punch Against the Incompetent Aquino Regime!

Warm and militant greetings!

WHAT: Production work

WHERE: Action 21

107-B Hutton St. (corner of Central Avenue)

Jersey City, NJ

WHEN: Wednesday, July 20; 4pm

WHY: President Noynoy Aquino’s 2nd State of the Nation Address is just around the corner. As we do every year, we’ll be holding a People’s State of the Nation Address under the banner of National Alliance of Filipino Concerns (NAFCON) and BAYAN-USA on Sunday, July 24, 12-1pm at Queens, NY.

Being an inspired, creative force, the youth in NJ is tasked to help make props for the protest action. The concept behind this production is that President “P-Noy” Aquino will be depicted as a spoiled egg, oozing with controversy and various incompetencies (rising prices of commodities, public-private partnerships, tuition fee hikes, Spratly dispute, etc). The boxing gloves will represent the Filipino people’s collective power that continues to fight for basic rights such as jobs, education, healthcare, and other social services. The boxing gloves also serve as a reference to Congressman Manny Pacquiao’s endorsement of the 125- peso wage increase bill.

We’ll be making 2 big boxing gloves that are meant to smash the spoilt “humpty dumpty”, and 6 smaller gloves representing the different groups of human trafficking victims and the community organizations in the NY/NJ area.

To volunteer, or for questions, contact Bea Sabino at biningbol@gmail.com or call (201) 779-6886. Thank you and hope you can offer some of your time for a great cause! Feel free to tag your friends who would be interested. 🙂

Join AB’s Growing Revolution Alternative Summer Program (G.R.A.S.P.)!

Learn history. Learn culture. Learn Revolution.

An inspiring introduction to an alternative summer break that fosters empowerment and community involvement of Filipino youth through workshops, discussions, community immersion and cultural work will be on June 8; however courses will officially begin on June 16.

All current members of Anakbayan NJ are required to take these courses and experience a deeper level of mass work in their respective areas. However, anyone interested in learning more about Filipino culture, history, and revolution in a dynamic, interactive atmosphere is welcome (and encouraged) to join.

The program orientation will identify objectives, set ground rules, discuss the flow and content of the educational series, and provide an opportunity for participants to get to know each other.

The program will run from June to August, ending with a cultural event and a summer weekend retreat. It aims to equip the Filipino youth with basic organizing skills by instilling heightened political awareness and encouraging critical analysis of significant developments in the local, national and global scale guided by the National Democratic Line.

G.R.A.S.P. meets once a week. Dates are flexible and will be agreed upon every week in consideration of the majority of participants. The program content is as follows:
